Child abuse and neglect unfortunately happen in Nebraska.  Child care providers need to know about child abuse and neglect, how to make a report, ways to strengthen families, and how to prevent child abuse in their own child care programs.  This two-hour workshop was developed by the Early Childhood Training Center and meets the requirements of Nebraska State Statute 43-2606.

Objectives
Learn signs of child abuse and neglect
Know the process of reporting all suspected child abuse and neglect
Understand the Nebraska law for mandatory reporting
Learn ways to support and strengthen families
Comprehend the process when a provider/teacher is reported to the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline
Identify ways providers/teachers could be at risk of being perpetrators of abuse and neglect

The purpose of this series is to increase knowledge about the growth and development of toddlers and increase understanding of developmentally appropriate learning environments for toddlers.  The series design includes hands on activities, with an emphasis on tools and strategies to implement immediately.

The training will provide a brief overview of:
Basic child development and strategies to support development and inclusion of all children in programs/classrooms (Developmental Milestones/Ages & Stages).
The format and topics of the seven Early Learning Guideline Domain Trainings including widely held expectations, learning in action, teaching with intent, environments, supporting children with a wide range of abilities, Dual Language Learners and children from a variety of cultures.
Participants will have an opportunity to look over a variety of lesson planning tools and will focus on using the tools and curriculum in their particular program.

Goals/Objectives:
Understand how to support development and learning in the Interest Areas / create a responsive environment
To learn how to address multiple domain areas and standards in each learning experience.
To help adapt learning experiences to address various developmental needs
To provide a better understanding the importance of developmental domains and skill levels when planning learning experiences

Do you know how to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and prevent accidental suffocation? Do you know the safest way to put a baby to sleep? Do you have a safe sleep policy? If you answered NO to any of these questions, this workshop is for you. The one-hour workshop was developed by the Early Childhood Training Center and meets the requirements of Nebraska State Statute 43-2606. Everyone is at risk of shaking a baby. When a baby is shaken, the shaking can cause brain damage, life changing disabilities, and even death. This is one childhood injury that is preventable. This one-hour workshop was developed by the Early Childhood Training Center and meets the requirements of Nebraska State Statute 43-2606.

Objectives:
Define SUID and accidental suffocation/strangulation in bed
Recite the four components of Safe Sleep
Have resources to develop a Safe Sleep Policy for an early childhood program
Review a sample Safe Sleep Policy for an early childhood program
Define Abusive Head Trauma
Understand the consequences of shaking a baby
List different reasons a baby may be crying
Create a personal plan to prevent Abusive Head Trauma
