Description | | Our society
tends to view time spent in play as frivolous, purposeless activity. In fact, play
is often considered to be the opposite of learning. This course will examine
common myths regarding play and then provide an overview of the developmental benefits
of play-based learning in early childhood. The benefits of loose parts play
will be examined as well. Cari will wrap up the session by discussing the
limitations of screen-based play along with recommendations for helping
families establish mindful screen time habits at home.
Objectives:
Explain how young children with developing brains and bodies learn best.
Describe the developmental benefits of play-based learning in early childhood.
Summarize the concept of loose parts play.
List 3 strategies for helping families establish mindful screen time habits at home. |
